Intel marketers have been instructed to put lipstick on a pig. They have dutifully done so.

Intel 4 and actual desktop performance improvement is coming... eventually. Just not in the next two quarters.

My first thought is that Intel can't bring Meteor Lake to desktop, but they don't want to call Raptor Lake Refresh 13th gen either, so they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. They can't call Raptor Lake Refresh 14th gen because that would conflict with the Laptop Meteor Lake parts which also are 14th gen. So instead they came up with this--which seems ridiculous to me--new naming scheme, of erasing the generation and calling some parts Ultra instead. I'm sure there are some other reasons behind other than this fact, but this was probably a big factor in their decision. Why else rebrand something that is so widely known?

"Intel Core 7 processor 1790P" makes me think of "Windows Phone 7 Series".
